I can tell you what works for me (I also have a W500), I think this will probably work for you. First you need to know where to go to get all of the latest and most up-to-date drivers. Lenovo Thinkpad W500 Driver File MatrixIt is the Lenovo Device Driver File Matrix (DDFM) for the W500. Make a bookmark of that site. When you download something from that site, it shows up as an executable file. When you run the executable, it doesnt actually install the driver, all it does is unpack the driver and put it into a sub-folder in the C:drivers folder. After you have downloaded and unpacked everything, you will have quite a fat folder at the root level of your hard drive (the C:drivers folder). Before you format your hard drive to do a new OS install, copy that whole folder onto a memory stick, because you will then use it as soon as you install your new OS. Install your new OS, let the OS install the default drivers that come with the OS. They may not be perfect, but they will at least get you going so that your computer operates OK first time you boot up the new OS.
